Intervention
The goal of the intervention is to present to the identified client data about her chemical abuse and or bizarre eating regiments in a caring and concerned manner in order to motivate her to obtain professional help. The identified client is blind to her disease and truly can’t see her disease or her need for help. An intervention allows you to present the reality of the situation to the identified client in a manner which she can accept.
Love and friendship require we walk the extra mile. Just as we would not allow a friend or loved one to drive drunk, we would not allow an individual with an uncontrollable progressive, terminal illness to die without trying to help.
INTERVENTION WORKS
It always takes a crisis to get a chemically dependent person into treatment. That crisis can be a number of problems, legal, physical, family, social, work, or intervention. Intervention gives hope to families and friends who are in emotional and sometimes physical pain because of the chemical dependency. Through the intervention process, families have the power to change the family pain to family wellness, unity, and recovery. The family unit has lots of power, but hey don’t know how to use it. When the Family is trained by a professional how to intervene, the process works, the identified client almost always goes to treatment and her recovery begins.
The message of the intervention is simple, It is, “we love you, and cannot stand by and watch you die.”
Any objection to the technique of confrontation , persuasion, or even ultimatum that are utilized toward this end somehow become insignificant in light of the ultimate payoff of salvaged families, jobs and more importantly lives.
